Lead a healthy lifestyle with Active Red!

We have started a new series of health-related information that we will be posting – lead a healthy lifestyle today with Active Red!

Today’s topic: Top metabolism Boosting Foods (click on the photo to see what you should eat to boost your metabolism rate!)

 

Our metabolism slows down as we get older. Our bodies take longer to digest the food we need, hence storing more fat in the body. We want to keep our metabolisms as high as possible, because a slow metabolism can cause fatigue, dry skin and obesity.

Here are some of the top metabolism boosting food:

Water- If you are not well hydrated, your metabolism rate will be lowered and you will burn less calories when resting. Stay hydrated at all times to maximise your metabolism!

Green Tea- Studies have shown that green tea extract boost metabolism and help to burn fat. It also carries antioxidants that keeps you healthy!

Coffee- Caffeine stimulates the metabolic rate and increase energy expenditure. However, do not add too much milk, cream and sugar to your coffee- they are filled with empty calories!

Hot Peppers- They speed up your heart rate, boosting your metabolism by as much as 50% for 3 hours after you eat them. Always remember to eat in consideration- excessive spicy food can lead to acid reflux, heart burn and stomach ulcers!

Spinach- Spinach is full of potassium, iron and vitamin C. It is found to reduce the amount of oxygen that your muscles require in order to function- allows you to perform at a higher level!

Lean Turkey- Contains protein that can help to boost metabolism, lose fat and build lean muscle tissue (to burn more calories).

Apple- An apple is loaded with 15 % of your daily recommended fibre. You will feel full longer and eat less!

Milk- Milk is rich in calcium (acts a metabolic trigger) and is also a rich source of complex carbohydrates, which can boost your metabolism by ensuring your insulin levels stay low after a meal (insulin is what triggers your body to store food as fat).

Grapefruit- Grapefruits reduce insulin levels in your body. They are rich in fiber, allowing you to feel full longer. It also promote a healthy heart and immune system- by supply vitamin C, folic acid and potassium!

Low-fat Yogurt- Contains large amounts of protein, which require more energy to be processed (hence burning more calories!). It also contains pro-biotic cultures that regulate your digestive tract.

Almonds- They are loaded with healthy fat, fibre and protein. They contain just the right proportions of essential fatty acids to raise your metabolism!

Oatmeal- For your breakfast, eat a bowl of oatmeal! It contains a high quality combinations of complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre and protein. They pump up metabolism and keep insulin levels low.

Berries- packed full of antioxidants, metabolism-boosting vitamins and phytochemicals, and cancer-fighting flavanoids.

Salmon- high in omega-3 fatty acids, which are extremely beneficial to the body. It also reduces the body’s level of leptin, promoting calorie burning.
